PREMIER Soccer League founding member Lovemore Gijima-Msindo has urged Zifa president Cuthbert Dube not to run for another term of office in light of the controversy that has surrounded him in recent weeks.
Gijima-Msindo, who owned Fire Batteries, said Dube is now carrying a huge load and needed to move away from the public life.
“At the moment Dube’s popularity has gone down because of the allegations that he was getting huge allowances and a big salary at PSMAS,” Gijima-Msindo said.

“If I were in his shoes, I will not seek re-election because a lot of people’s trust in him has gone down.”
The Macheke farmer said he wasn’t eyeing a return to football administration.

“Right now I am not in a position to return to football but I hope in the next Zifa election we will get a former player to lead the association,” said Gijima-Msindo.
“It’s high time we get a former player to lead Zifa because former players understand what needs to be done to take the game forward. Of course, not all former players will be good administrators but sometimes we have to look at what Kalusha Bwalya has done in Zambia.”

Interestingly, Gijima-Msindo said he believes Leslie Gwindi did not flout any regulations when he criticised the PSL sponsors.
“My basic argument is that when clubs broke away from the Super League to form the Premier Soccer League, it was to run away from Zifa’s direct control,” said Gijima-Msindo.

“Remember I was one of the founder members when I was still running my team (Fire Batteries) and one reason clubs moved away was on the levies of 10 percent which we felt were too much.

“So in a way I think, Leslie Gwindi was right to criticise some of the things and it now needs those people who have been critised to look and see if they are doing the right things.

“I know that Gwindi has run Dynamos and he was also secretary of the PSL while right now he is at Harare City. That means there could be some sense in some of the things he says but it’s unfortunate Zifa want to instil fear in people who question how they run football.”
