Free health checks for Nyanga South Mandiwanzira

villagers with different ailments are this weekend expected to benefit from the Nyanga is Supa Free Medical Outreach Programme that has become a permanent feature in the community in recent years. The outreach programme, which will be held on Saturday and Sunday, is the brainchild of Nyanga South Member of Parliament Cde Supa Mandiwanzira.

This weekend’s programme comes on the backdrop of another one that was held in April this year which saw more than 3 000 people benefiting from the free medical services.

It will be rolled out in areas such as Magarati, Bende health post, Sadomba School, Magamba Primary School, Dazi health post, Nyamagaya farm and Kute Primary School.

“Key to the achievement of universal health coverage is decentralisation of health services. We are bringing health care to people’s doorsteps at several outreach points in the district. It’s all systems go and we are expecting hundreds of people with different ailments to come and benefit from the two-day programme,” Cde Mandiwanzira said.

The programme is targeting people in remote areas, who are failing to consult doctors for their various ailments due to several challenges including cash shortages and transport availability.

Nyanga District Medical Officer Dr Admore Jokwiro, who is also part of the initiative, said: “We are expecting more than 2 000 people to benefit from the free medical services that will include cervical cancer screening and eye checks.

The programme is a partnership between the Nyanga is Supa Foundation, Doctors for Life Zimbabwe Trust and the Ministry of Health and Child Care Nyanga district.

A number of people have confirmed that they have benefited immensely from the initiative that has seen local and international doctors including some from Canada and India, coming through.

Sick villages in Nyanga travel long distances to get medical care a situation, which has seen some people losing their lives before they could receive medical assistance.

The Nyanga is Supa Free Medical Outreach is an annual event and has played a critical role in ensuring health delivery to thousands of villagers in Nyanga South constituency.
