Police have arrested a suspected fraudster on allegations of duping several people of thousands of US dollars after making them believe he could secure employment for them in the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) and other government departments.

Dovan Tshikubadzo Ncube (60), also duped other people after purporting to be able to facilitate travelling and national identity documents.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest.

“On 14 April 2021, police arrested the suspect in connection with several cases of fraud where he duped several victims after purporting to be able to facilitate their issuance of travelling documents and national identity documents and demanding various amounts of cash in United States dollars,” he said.

“The suspect also used his WhatsApp number 0773 331 166 to contact unsuspecting victims promising them employment in the Zimbabwe Republic Police, Zimbabwe National Army and other Government departments while impersonating some high ranked government officials.”

Asst Comm Nyathi urged members of the public who might have fallen victim to the suspect to report at any nearest police station or the ZRP national complaints desk on 0242 703631.

The police and the army have been urging the public to be wary of fraudsters who might lure them into believing that they can secure employment for them within the security services and government department.

Recently, the Zimbabwe National Army warned members of the public, especially the business community, to be wary of fraudsters masquerading as ZNA procurement officers.

The fraudsters allegedly duped potential suppliers that they take orders on behalf of the army, thereby making them deposit money into unofficial bank accounts.

In a statement, ZNA director public relations, Colonel Alphios Makotore advised potential suppliers that the army dealt directly with suppliers and not through middlemen.

He called on members of the public to immediately report suspicious characters pretending to be acting on behalf of the ZNA at their nearest

Col Makotore warned the fraudsters that the long arm of the law will soon catch up with them. To date, there have been some arrests and due court processes are taking course.
