A RECORD 25 teams are expected to grace the annual Danhiko Paralympic Games which will begin today at Danhiko in Harare.

The athletes will compete in athletics, goal ball, wheelchair basketball, netball, soccer, five-a-side soccer, wheelchair tennis, slalom and swimming.

The teams will take part in different sport codes and this 31st edition of the Danhiko Annual Paralympics Games will this year have a foreign flavour as athletes from Zambia have confirmed their availability.

Danhiko Paralympic Games spokesperson, Walter Zininga, said they are happy to be hosting the games starting today until Sunday.

“The organising committee of the annual Danhiko Paralympic games are happy to announce that the 31st edition of the annual Danhiko Paralympic Games will start tomorrow (today). The official opening will be held tomorrow (Saturday) and the guest of honour will be Minister of Youth, Sports, Arts and Recreation, Kirsty Coventry.

“This year’s games will be going by the theme “Let’s play sports leaving no-one behind”. So far 25 teams have registered and one is from Zambia.

“We are expecting more than 600 athletes and officials are expected to converge at Danhiko for three days of sporting extravaganza.

‘’The numbers have been reduced as compared to last time editions due to Covid-19 protocols as prescribed by the Ministry of Health and Child Care,” said Zininga.
