“Who do people say I am?” They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, one of the prophets. “But what about you?” He asked. “Who do you say I am? Peter answered, “You are the Messiah.” (Mark 8:27-29)

The term “Messiah” is the translation of the Hebrew term masiah (jyiv’m), which is derived from the verb masah, meaning to smear or anoint. The term “Messiah” is not used to refer to “anointed” objects that were designated and consecrated for specific cultic purposes, but to persons only.

Persons who were anointed had been elected, designated, appointed, given authority, qualified and equipped for specific offices and tasks related to these.

Anoint means ceremonially confer divine or holy office upon (a priest or monarch) by smearing or rubbing with oil. Peter is referring to JESUS as the Messiah meaning the anointed one, the Divine one, meaning He is God who has been appointed or given authority to set you free from spiritual oppression.

He has been anointed to bring good news to you. Follow Him and be a receiver of good news in your home, work and businesses. Follow Him and come out of spiritual bondage. Bondages of poverty, anti-progress, limitation, anti-marriage, rejection, poverty, slowness, barrenness, failure, the list goes on.

This is the time for you to really know who Christ is. Are you like others who call him John the Baptist, Elijah, or any of the prophets?

You need your full package from Christ the Messiah. Follow the Messiah, He will set you free from spiritual bondage.
