AS  exclusively revealed by The Saturday Herald two days ago, FC Platinum have confirmed the appointment of Norman Mapeza as their head coach.
Mapeza, regarded as one of the finest young coaches in the country, takes over from Lloyd Mutasa.“FC Platinum has appointed, with immediate effect, Norman Mapeza as its head coach after the departure of Lloyd Mutasa, who left the club on Thursday, 7 August 2014,” club president George Mawere said in a statement. “Contrary to speculation, Mapeza joins the coaching department not because of any other motives but rather mutual interest to work with the club structures to deepen the professionalism and model the team into a competitive outfit.

“He is a goal-driven individual with experience at European, African and national team levels. He has played in Poland, Turkey and South Africa and coached CAPS United and Monomotapa during the year they won the Premier League championship.”

Mapeza inked a new deal on Wednesday in Gweru and will be here for three years. “Mapeza got a signing-on fee of US$10 000 for the first year and he will receive US$30 000 for the three years in signing-on fees. He will receive US$6 000 a month,” sources said.

Mapeza is expected to bring his own assistant and Lloyd Chitembwe might also be on his way to the platinum miners. The two are good friends.

Mapeza is expected to be unveiled tomorrow at Mandava. “The club executive and management has appealed to its fans and stakeholders to support the new coach as he settles down in Zvishavane and seeks to guide the club to glory and success in both the Premier League and various cup competitions.

“Mapeza’s inaugural game is at Mandava Stadium in the Chibuku Cup against Bantu Rovers on Saturday 16, August 2014,” said Mawere.
