GOOD Hope bowler Jono Evans emerged as the overall winner of the Masters Bowls tournament at Highlands Sports Club yesterday.
The Masters was a three-day event and one of the biggest tournaments which draws the country’s top 10 bowlers.Evans had 18 points with an aggregate of +97 after winning nine games.

This was his first title.

“I am very happy, I would not say that the games were easy, it was a tough one and winning it is a very good thing,” said Evans.

Evans plays for Good Hope in Bulawayo together will Denis Streak, who recorded 14 points after losing two games.

Tom Craven settled for second place with 14 points with an aggregate of a +37, while Streak took third place, also on 14 points ,but with a lower aggregate of a +26.

The president of Bowls Zimbabwe, Malcolm Evans, described the competition as a well-organised event.

“The tournament was well organised, lots of competition for the bowlers which was good, the games were very interesting,” said Evans.

In the women’s section, the games were competitive too, and all the top three players registered the same points but in the end, the best aggregate scores determined the winner.

Highlands top bowler Kerry Craven, emerged the winner with 14 points and an aggregate of +61.

In second place was Jane Rigby of Old Miltonians Sports Club, on 14 points with an aggregate of +37.

Debbie Robertson of Avondale settled for third place with 14 points but with an aggregate of +26.

“A job well done to all the players, the competition was quite stiff. And to the organisers, I say well done, the tournament ran very well in all the three days,” said Craven.

“I am happy to win, I was the runner-up at the last Masters and this year I am the one on top which is a wonderful thing for me and my club Highlands.”

The Master tournament is used to select players for the Africa States bowls tournament.
