SUPERHORSE . . . Equina powers to victory in the Castle Tankard at Borrowdale this year before romping to another win in the ZNA Charity Shield race at the same venue on Sunday

EQUINA continued with her good form as she romped to victory in the Zimbabwe National Army Charity Shield race at Borrowdale on Sunday.
Equinna was partnered by Zimbabwean-born jockey Karl Zechner, who is now based in South Africa, under the Amy Bronkhost stable. While Zechner admitted the race was tough, he believed that Equina deserved to win after the investment put into the development of the horse. “I think the way things have played with Amy (Bronkhost), she has prepared the horse to perfection.

“She made an investment on how future races against the male horses will unfold.
“She deserved to win,” said an elated Zechner. The female horse, which also won Africa’s oldest sponsored race, the Castle Tankard, and the OK Grand Challenge, continued to shine.
Before winning the Castle Tankard, the racing industry had waited for 16 years for a filly winner. Another seasoned campaigner, Captain’s Tiger, came second, trailing Equina by 75 lens while Lisa Harris’ Forty One was third.

Alula Borealis was withdrawn by the course veterinary surgeon.
