Mutare West legislator Dr Chris Mushohwe has urged zanu-pf members to encourage their children to register as voters. Dr Mushohwe said this would help the ruling party to win resoundingly in 2018.

Addressing members of his constituency when he donated bags of cement for the construction of Fungirayi Clinic in Ward 29 under Headman Mukada on Sunday, Dr Mushohwe said: “We should take advantage of the ongoing registration exercise to obtain important documents like birth certificates and national IDs.

“Government has set aside 90 days for this programme and centres have already been identified. Chiefs and village heads, please assist those people since we need them to register to vote as well.

“It will be prudent for parents with children in towns to encourage them to come and register at home. Tell them to come and vote here at home. Those who can afford should come, register at home and return to cast their votes on the voting day. They will then return to the city after voting.” Dr Mushohwe said they wanted to go into the 2018 elections as a united front.

He said zanu-pf should pull large numbers like it did in 2013. Dr Mushohwe, who is also the Minister of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services, said he helped his constituency to build seven clinics and 15 A-Level schools, among other projects. He said he had discovered that people were travelling long distances to access primary health care, which prompted him to spearhead the construction of clinics in Mutare West constituency.

“The clinics that I am talking about were constructed in areas where people were walking long distances to the nearest one. We also noted that we had constructed more schools as compared to clinics and we decided to build one here,” he said.
