Editorial Comment: More than a meeting of birds of a feather

CartoonYESTERDAY, we carried a story on the weekend’s public display of unity between opposition MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai and former Vice President Joice Mujuru at a rally in Gweru.

In particular, we exposed how Dr Mujuru’s late husband, General Solomon Mujuru, had been instrumental in forging an alliance not only between a section within the ruling Zanu-PF with the opposition, but also a broader collusion with Western forces, especially the United States.

Much of this information is not particularly new as we all know that this is how “Bhora Musango” came about with Zanu-PF leaders and aspirants loyal to the Mujuru cabal seeking to have President Mugabe lose the Presidential election of 2008 — which he nearly did were it not for the constitutional requirement requiring the winner to amass 50 percent plus 1 of the votes cast which then necessitated a run-off.

One Simba Makoni, it will be recalled, was the one responsible for splitting the Zanu-PF vote as he broke away from the ruling party again at the instigation of the Mujurus, to form his Mavambo Kusile Dawn outfit and challenge for Presidency.

That is all for the history books now.

What had long been kept under wraps was revealed in Gweru on Saturday, as our sages characteristically said of such odious packages.

Having seen that, Zimbabweans are now confronted with a new political reality especially ahead of 2018, the election year.

The year will mark 10 years since the Mujuru cabal’s political adultery with Tsvangirai.

An official coalition appears on the way now that Dr Mujuru is out of Zanu-PF and in her own home and has thrown all pretence to the wind. The electorate thus will be able to see Tsvangirai and Mujuru on parade as one, a real mating of porcupines.

The first thing that shows through is that this likely hybrid is a Western creation that was created specifically to advance hostile foreign interests: the one flank being a neo-liberal wing and the other a diluted form of a revolutionary force.

The strategy is clear.

As in the original conception, the aim is to capture the liberal mostly urban element and merge it with a pilfered rural vote which would be legitimated by former freedom fighters.

It is a ruse, but one which any discerning person will not miss. It cannot be hard to understand, anyway, just a supposed liberation fighter can sup with a foreign founded and funded quisling party.

That liberation fighter would have degenerated into a quisling himself or herself and that is why it has been noted that in this case, shown poignantly over the weekend, it is Dr Mujuru who has been swallowed by the MDC-T, not the other way round.

The MDC-T has kept its true sell-out colours and it has had to be Dr Mujuru to follow the same treasonous colours and chant together and show the open palm hand symbol of the MDC-T.

Little wonder, then, that it was long observed that Dr Mujuru never wanted to chant anti-MDC slogans as is custom in Zanu-PF.

Much worse, we hear that even in Government her complicity with the opposition complicated matters and also brought uneasiness to her relationship with her principal, President Mugabe.

But the beauty in this imbroglio appears to be the fact that, now that the birds of the same feather have been seen flocking together people are clear on the choices they have to make.

The people have long rejected the West and its attempts at recolonising this country and Dr Mujuru has stood on the side of the former colonisers.

Shorn of this pretence, Dr Mujuru and her conspirators can be assured that a bhora musango, least so a successful one, cannot be repeated because the inveiglement has fallen off.
