SPILLS and thrills will once again be the order of the day when the 2019 season of one of the most exciting motorsport events in this country — Drag Racing — revs off at Donnybrook Raceway in Harare tomorrow.

Tomorrow will see scores of local motor racing enthusiasts making their way to the home of Zimbabwean motorsport to watch this exciting event which brings together some of the country’s top drivers and superbike riders who will be burning the tyres on the quarter-mile track at Donnybrook.

Drag racing in Zimbabwe is sponsored by hp lubes/Castrol and run by the Sables Dragpro Club who now have Michael Raw as their new chairman.

Raw yesterday said tomorrow’s event will be one of the most exciting ones as he begins his tenure as the new chairman of the Sables Dragpro Club.

He also said most of the country’s top drag racing drivers and bikers, including Zevgolis and the legendary Terry Alberry, have already confirmed their participation at tomorrow’s season-opener at Donnybrook.

“We saw an exciting year last year with the introduction of lots of new competitors and cars, including the rail car driven by Terry Alberry who ended up taking first place in the nationals, placing Zimbabwe on the world map of motorsport.

“Our final meeting (last year) had over 80 competitors with thousands of spectators in attendance to feel the thrill of speed and competitive racing. We are very happy that other than a couple of breakdowns, we had no accidents or injuries on the track last year and hope for the same in 2019,’’ Raw said.

Racing tomorrow starts at 10am and entry fees for the spectators has been pegged at $5 per person while children under the age of 12 will get in for free.
