Walking in Spirit

Hebrews 12:3 (NKJV); “For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls.”

We sometimes hold onto every word that is directed to us in discussion. People tend to share opinions with such authority that the recipient is sometimes bound by what they hear. Innocent exchanges end up becoming a nightmare that we want to forget.

Our friends and family are invariably the circle of our sustenance, they form our support group and we hold on to their words. I have been thinking about some of the conversations that I have had, the things that have been said to me and also the things I have said to others.

It’s so easy to be broken and to break the spirit of others using words. Words are such a powerful weapon, a weapon that can be used for both good and bad.

Used properly they can build, nurture, strengthen, encourage and give hope. Used in malice, words can destroy, break and shake the core of one’s self dignity till an individual loses their sense of purpose.

I thought about some of the things that have been said about me both in public and in private.

Like me, I assume you have also had your fair share of opinions that you have been branded with. As I reflected, I noted that the words of men can sometimes be very unkind; some of the things we say are really unnecessary.

Are you caught up in a situation where you are seeking the affirmation of others, where you have to justify their spoken words?

Are you in a place where things have been said about you? As you reflect on these words and continuously play them back in your head, has self-doubt begun to creep in? Is your self-confidence dented?

Just before David was anointed as king, the prophet Samuel had to ask his father if he had any more children that he had not shown him in his quest to find God’s choice to be king. As an afterthought, the father then mentioned that there was one more son, the youngest who was tending the sheep at the time.

The rest is history.

Be blessed.
