WITH just two games left in the World Navi Northern Region Division One soccer league, Gunners coach, Kudakwashe Masaraure, says their destiny is no longer in their hands.

But Chando Kupisa, as Gunners are fondly referred to, are not giving up the fight.

Gunners are just a point behind log leaders, Flame Lily, and both teams have been doing well in the past few weeks as the championship race intensifies. Gunners will battle it out against Ngezi Platinum on Saturday at Rufaro before they meet Bindura United in their last game of the season the following week.

Flame Lily will lock horns with Starbill and ZRP Football Club.

Gunners appear to have the tougher fixtures but that could be a blessing in disguise for Chando Kupisa.

Ngezi have done well in their first season in Division One and are currently sitting fifth on the table.

Bindura have also found that magical touch, which saw them leading the race at some point, after having gone through a dry spell.

The team from Mashonalnd Central are hoping to finish in the top four and will be out to get maximum points in the last two games as they only have pride to play for.

Bindura have been using their youngsters, plucked from their reserve side, after a number of first-team regulars abandoned the team.

Masaraure believes this weekend’s games could determine the possible winners of the title.

“I think this week will be the decider but looking at the way the guys are playing, and the ground we are using, I don’t see any reason why we should lose,” said Masaraure.

“We are still hoping that, in the last two games, something might derail to Flame Lily. The Gunners coach said Saturday’s match was a must-win for his men and they have adequately prepared for the encounter.

“There are no injuries and we have a full squad so we are looking forward to a win.” Gunners seemed to be in control of their destiny, at some point, leading the race by five points after they beat Flame Lily in their backyard.

Chando Kupisa dropped eight crucial points between September and October that saw them surrendering top spot to Flame Lily and the prison officers have managed to maintain their one-point advantage for the past five games.

Twice, Flame Lily have scored in the last minute and that was the case last weekend in their game against Lake Harvest in Kariba.
