DeMbare midfielder’s prayer Shadreck Nyahwa

HIS capabilities are beyond any doubt and it came as no surprise when new coach Herbert “Jompano” Maruwa decided to retain him in the Dynamos squad.

But midfielder Shadreck Nyahwa hasn’t been so lucky with injuries.

The 24-year-old arrived at the Glamour Boys amid hefty expectations, having shown his potential during his days at Bulawayo Chiefs.

In fact, Dynamos celebrated his arrival, having beaten fellow giants to the midfielder’s signature at the beginning of 2021.

But he has been unable to play a huge part for DeMbare for almost his entire stay over the past two years.

He was key in Dynamos’ Chibuku Super Cup fine run which ended in a semi-final setback at the hands of eventual winners FC Platinum in 2021.

Although he started the term on a brighter note last season, Nyahwa would soon be grounded by an injury that limited his participation in the league.

He has been slowly recovering and he believes he will be up for the task in the upcoming season.

“My prayer for this season is not good form only, but good health too,” said Nyahwa.

“When I arrived at Dynamos, everything was just ideal for me to flourish and I think I was playing very well, enjoying my season at the team.

“But I struggled with an injury that kept me out for the whole second half of the season last year.

“Given I was enjoying my game for the first half of the season and seeing myself grounded in the second phase was something very painful to take.

“That’s the nature of football at times.

“I really missed football during the time I was recovering. At times I thought I wouldn’t be able to play the game again but I had the faith to keep me in the recovery path

“But I was very happy my teammates were doing the job, winning and chasing the eventual champions FC Platinum. Unfortunately, we lost it but it was a good season.

“I was so happy when coach Maruwa retained me in the squad and I can say 2023 is our year as Dynamos Football Club.

“We want the big one and to do better than what we did last season. We are hoping for the best with the Dynamos family.

“I think we have the quality to take us over the line.

“We will work hard so that we can achieve our goal. “I am feeling fitter than ever, no injuries this time and I want to start my season on a good note and hope things go well.”

Nyahwa will be expected to replicate the form which saw him being Bulawayo Chiefs’ most outstanding player for over two years.

He knows he can do as much if injuries spare him.

“I haven’t reached my peak as yet. I know I have a lot in my tank and it was unfortunate for me to have been limited from doing what I like the most due to injuries.

“The stay at Dynamos has been very painful so far. This is a team which allows me to express myself and do all I can to showcase my talent.

“But I haven’t been able to really step up to the plate.

“I hope the injuries’ era is now over and I will be able to play and help my team to win matches and trophies.”

He said although Dynamos are looking strong on paper, they will need to be wary of the threats posed by FC Platinum, Highlanders, CAPS United, Ngezi Platinum Stars and dark horses Manica Diamonds, Herentals and Simba Bhora.
