Covid-19: Africa should find its own solutions Although we don’t have a vaccine against Coronavirus, we can use nutrition to fight the infection

Edouard Rene Joseph Correspondent

Covid-19 continues to create havoc across the world; this pandemic has spared no continent.

Many people continue to get infected as others succumb to the infection.

But we are not hopeless, governments, the medical community and researchers are making concerted efforts to fight the pandemic.

Many companies and research institutions are in top gear to develop appropriate solutions for Covid-19.

At present, we don’t have any vaccine against coronavirus; the good news is some vaccine trials are already in the human phase of testing.

In about a year or so, we expect to get an effective vaccine for the virus. Our only hope now is to observe preventive measures in fighting this deadly viral infection that has brought the world to a standstill.

Our bodies must adapt to the virus unassisted until when we’ll have a vaccine. Currently, there’s a major focus on the immune system in the fight against coronavirus.

This vital system in our bodies is our natural defence against all the disease-causing organisms, including bacteria and viruses.

The immune system comprises a multilevel defences network that combats these micro-organisms.

It includes an intricate network of cells, chemicals, and processes that fight any infectious organism invading the body.

If the body’s immunity is at its optimum, it can effectively combat viral infections.

According to the Chinese Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CCDC) 80 percent of Covid-19 cases are asymptomatic.

A huge number of these individuals develop the infection and cure independently without the need for medications.

Unfortunately, those with advanced age and underlying health conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease are unable to fight this infection, with most of them succumbing to it. Scientists are looking at how the host’s immune system responds to the infection.

They also are relying on past evidence about the body’s responses to viral infections to understand how coronavirus affects the body.

The evidence gathered has shown a significant correlation between a weak immune system and Covid-19 related fatalities.

The WHO recommended a healthy diet and hydration in managing coronavirus disease.

This emphasises the importance of a vibrant immune system in combating this viral infection.

According to this world health governing body, a healthy diet is a source of energy and a critical part of immunity to invading pathogens.

It helps to prevent malnutrition and non-communicable diseases like diabetes, stroke, heart disease, and cancer.

Data from the CDC show that most Covid-19 deaths have been witnessed in patients with underlying conditions and compromised immunity.

Therefore, it’s essential to ensure your body’s immune system is in the best state possible to stop Covid-19 from developing into severe stages, which are usually fatal.

Proper nutrition is vital for a strong immune system.

Unfortunately, most individuals are unable to get the essential micro-nutrients from the diet.

This problem is worse in developing countries like in the African continent.

For those who can’t get sufficient nutrients from their diet, there’s a need to supplement using herbs, minerals, vitamins, and other substances that enhance immune response and protect against infections.

The risk factors for contracting Covid-19 are many, but our actions can help to minimise the chances of developing a severe coronavirus infection.

Immune-boosting supplements, eating healthy foods, and exercise are some of the steps we can take to limit the severity of the viral infection.

Many companies that manufacture immune-boosting supplements have witnessed a spike in demand for these products since the pandemic began.

A healthy diet is essential for the development of strong immunity. Such foods lead to a healthy microbiome (helpful micro-organism found in the gut).

The immune system and the gut are symbiotically and intricately connected.

Although we don’t have a vaccine against Coronavirus, we can use nutrition to fight the infection.

KKOG Africa LTD is one of the companies that have made advances in innovative solutions against Covid-19.

They have come up with an immunity booster called “Immunite.”

This product contains vitamins and other compounds known to boost immunity, including Vitamins A, C, D, B6 zinc, and CBG which blocks the virus from attaching to the Lungs Ace2 receptor and steering the body from the worst aspects of Covid-19’s effects.

KKOG Africa LTD is based in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kinshasa and is a subsidiary of KKOG INC. based in California, USA.

The product works by boosting the body’s immunity and preventing the development of severe symptoms of Covid-19.

This immune booster is key preventative, especially for at-risk individuals on the continent of Africa as most are Immunocompromised and demographics such as seniors and those with diabetes, hypertension, and other related health conditions.

The immune booster is a game-changer in the fight against coronavirus considering the uniqueness of the African continent.

Social distancing has proved to be a nightmare in most African countries; over 60 percent of city dwellers live in slums or informal housing.

Such areas are characterised by unhygienic conditions including lack of water and soap for handwashing.

The continent is also home to about 17 million displaced persons and 6 million refugees.

Again the average household comprises 6 to 9 people. Air pollution and unhealthy diets make health burdens that much worse. Since the cost of the vaccine may be out of reach for most Africans, Immunite may prove to be a viable remedy for the fight against Covid-19.

KKOG is in talks with several African governments to start mass production of the immune booster.

The company also has a footprint and labs present in African countries, including Tanzania, Uganda, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Malawi.
