A Hurungwe couple is seeking financial assistance to take their seven month-old child suffering from hydrocephalus to hospital for treatment and further management.

In an interview, the couple said their child’s head started bulging when she was four months-old and had never been to the hospital due to financial problems.

“Rutendo’s head began to swell when she was four months old and we went to the Karoi Hospital where we were referred to Chidamoyo Mission Hospital.

“We did not go to Chidamoyo because we did not have money for the child’s treatment or even examination. Her condition is worsening now and every day she is in great pain,” the mother Ms Sekai Njuma.

Rutendo’s father, Mathew Munyawiri, is unemployed and is not expecting much from his tobacco crop that was affected by late rains and nutrients deficiency.

According to scientists, hydrocephalus is the accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in the cavities of the brain. Hydrocephalus can occur at any age, but it mostly affects infants and adults 60 or older.

The couple can be contacted on 0785251846 (Munyawiri) or contact the village head of the area Vukani Burombo on 0719821247 or 0774579153.
