CONWAY were crowned the NASH Under-20 volleyball champions beating Mazowe Boys High in the final of the tournament hosted by Herman Germaine High School in Bindura yesterday. The tournament featured 24 teams of girls and boys from the 10 provinces around the country.

Conway had earlier on dismissed Churchill 3-0 in the semi-finals to set up the stage for their success against Mazowe, whom they beat by the same margin to reclaim the title.

Conway volleyball coach Chekuda Makuyana hailed the performance of his team.
“We played against one of the strongest teams in the tournament and through discipline and hard work from my boys we managed to beat Mazowe Boys High.

“Considering that Mazowe were coming as the holders of the Sables volleyball tournament played last year, we were prepared to face them and the better team came out with a positive result.

“We trained well and we made sure we should maintain our focus because we were facing a tough opponent,” said Makuyana.
In the girls’ category Chibi High School from Masvingo emerged winners in the final after beating Roosevelt.

Chibi headmaster Boniface Machingauta saluted the performance of the girls’ team.
“I am really happy because the girls showed our opponents why we travelled such a long distance from Masvingo to Bindura,” he said.
Charles Nyamasve of Conway College was voted the Most Valuable Player in the boys’ category and Zhangazha Carren of Roosevelt walked away with the honour in the girls’ category.
