Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister, Monica Mutsvangwa recently applauded the roll out of community radio stations across the country, saying this had greatly improved dissemination of information.

The Government has in recent years helped set up community radio stations in several remote areas of the country, such as Chiredzi, Chimanimani and Beitbridge districts to ensure access to information by communities in marginal regions.

Minister Mutsvangwa said this was a key government project which dovetailed with its policy thrust of leaving no one or place behind in national development.

She was speaking at a ceremony where the boards of directors and top management of the country’s three public broadcasting corporations, the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe, Transmedia and the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation, were signing their performance contracts for the year.

The three corporations are heavily involved in setting up of community radio stations, and other broadcasting services across the country.

“The successful upgrading of ZBC studios from analogue to digital transmission was a remarkable achievement that should be applauded. I am very proud that all of us are working as a team towards the attainment of Vision 2030 supporting his Excellency President Mnangagwa’s vision of leaving no one and no place behind.

“Zimbabwe is no longer a country known for one television channel because of the work we have all done. We have embraced content creators ensuring a free flow of information and ideas using the cyber space and new media,” she said.

The Government wanted to see continued expansion of both television and radio services across Zimbabwe to ensure every square inch was adequately covered as envisaged in the country’s development blueprint, the National Development Strategy 1.

Minister Mutsvangwa said this demanded results-oriented work performance by institutions involved, from boards to entire workforce, good corporate governance, and thinking outside the box in terms of resource mobilisation. — New Ziana
