Book Café was a hive of activity last weekend as comedians took turns to entertain the audience in an exciting show dubbed “Will you be my Punchline?”
Award winning Simba Kakora popularly known as Simba the Comic King was the first on stage to deliver his funny stories on stage.

His Chinese jokes got people laughing their lungs out as he did his best to bring colour to the event that was hosted by Comrade Fatso. Next to excite audiences was Nqobizita “Q-The Boss” Siziba who had a jaw-breaking thread about how he dumped his cheating girlfriend. He also had a joke about a Zimbabwean’s experience in South Africa after entering a bar full of gays.

Some of the topical issues he made fun of include how raunchy dancer Beverly “Bev” Sibanda got born again and other jokes centred on Cuthbert Dube and jailed church leader Robert Gumbura’s case.

Speaking in an interview with the Herald Entertainment, event organiser, Victor Mpofu aka Doc Vikela said the performances were intelligently presented.

“The performances were quite interesting and were also a reflection of the many facets that make good stand-up comedy material. We are also nurturing other upcoming comedians since the sector is growing,” he said.

“The turn-out was overwhelming as the space became too small and that is a sign that many people are appreciating our local comedy.

“Although we have been doing things on our own, we are urging the corporate sector to support comedy. Let them come and check out what we are doing.”

Simuka Comedy is a collaboration of popular and emerging comedians who develop, promote and present comedy.

The event was founded in June 2011 by Simba the Comic King and Doc Vikela.

It has hosted some of Zimbabwe’s best comedians like the hilarious Michael Kudakwashe and Carl Joshua Ncube.
