Harare City Council has handed over its quarry venture to a strategic business unit, the Harare Quarry (Pvt) Ltd, in a bid to improve its operations. Speaking during the hand over ceremony, Harare Mayor councillor Bernard Manyenyeni said they were borrowing money to ensure the unit is well funded.

“Harare quarry is 100 percent owned by ourselves. What we have done is putting it under a business culture, which is demanding a performance. We sit and occupy a very special space which is under the spotlight.
“This piece of land must deliver. I would like to visit this place within 60 days and see it functioning.

“We know this project will perform. We have the space and we are borrowing money from a bank. Currently, there is a challenge of funding. We are gap filling. We are trying to present and produce capacity out of this,” he said.
Clr Manyenyeni dismissed claims on private disposal of the business in a private transaction.

“This project has been subject of so much talking and much of it is incorrect and misplaced.
“There is an indication that we have allocated this business to somebody else in a private transaction. There is no such private disposal of this operation to outsiders,” he said.
