LONDON. – Manchester City are interested in signing Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere, according to Sky sources.

It is reported that the Gunners should expect a move by City for the 23-year-old, who has been troubled by injuries in the past four years.

Sky Sports News reporter James Cooper says City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has insisted manager Manuel Pellegrini’s squad will be improved over the summer.

The club have already been attempting to lure England international Raheem Sterling from Liverpool, with Sky sources reporting that a second bid of £40m by City would be rejected.

And it was Wilshere who starred for England last weekend when he scored two goals in the 3-2 victory over Slovenia in a European Qualifier.

Cooper believes his status as a home-grown player is another reason City would like to acquire the services of Wilshere.

“They need to fill their home-grown quota and they need to bring quality in,” Cooper told Sky Sports News HQ.

“You only have to hear the words of Khaldoon Al Mubarak. He came out passionately last week and talked about last season and talked about next season, and said that Manuel Pellegrini would have a better, stronger squad full of elite players.” – Sky Sports.
