CHURCHILL Boys snatched the Prince Edward Schools Invitational Basketball tournament from the hands of bitter rivals and defending champions Prince Edward after a close 30-28 win.It was a painful weekend for the Tigers who were left in tears in front of their home crowd after the close defeat at the hands of their bitter rivals.

On their way to the final, the boys from Eastlea beat Marlborough 28-17 while the hosts shrugged off the challenge of Bulawayo side Milton College 29-16.

In group stages, Prince Edward beat Serima School of Masvingo 25-11 and were 38-11 victors over Gifford.

Prince Edward also powered to a 34-14 win over Mount Pleasant but could not handle Churchill who beat them 29-24.

Prince Edward then advanced to the quarter-finals where they beat Watershed 30-11.

Girls High successfully defended their title.

On their way to glory, Girls High beat Petra 14-5 and in the final they beat Mufakose 2 17-8.

The Most Valuable Player for the boys was Kudakwashe Nyamuchengwa from Churchill and the girls Most Valuable Player was Melody Chapwanya from Girl’s High School.

This year’s tournament had more than 34 teams taking part.
