CHURCHES in Zimbabwe yesterday prayed for peace in Palestine as the ongoing Israeli attacks and genocide in the Gaza Strip reached 100 days.

The churches represented by World Day of Prayer (WDP) converged at the Embassy of Palestine in Harare where they took turns to pray for peace in Palestine.

Addressing the attendants, WDP executive director Dr Fredrick Chitate said they are praying for the war to end in Palestine as they stood in solidarity with the country against the genocide.

“While we are mourning the loss of our friends in the Gaza Strip we are marking 100 days of the Israeli genocide in Palestine. We are leading this prayer not by accident, but in solidarity with the people of Palestine.

“Over 180 countries will be praying for the people of Palestine to give them hope and wipe off their tears.

“We hope that these prayers will go to the Almighty to help the people of Palestine. This movement is led by women who used to pray for their husbands and we hope that their prayers will be heard by the Almighty.”

Commissioner Silvia Marowa, the public relations officer of the World Day of Prayer, called on nations to unite in solidarity with Palestine.

“We stand with the people of Palestine who have endured 100 days of war and we offer our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.”

“We pray for peace and justice for all the people in the region and the Palestinian Ambassador together with his family as they grieve the loss of their loved ones. May all the people bear with one another in love and work towards a spirit of peace and reconciliation. We pray for Palestine day and night until this genocide is over. Let us all continue to pray with the ambassador and the State of Palestine at large so that the war ends soon.”

Ambassador of Palestine to Zimbabwe Dr Tamer Almassri thanked the churches and the Zimbabwe Government at large for the support.

“Some of the countries in the world showed some action in solidarity with the Palestinian people against the Israeli apartheid war in the Gaza Strip,” he said.

“Zimbabwe is not far from the great solidarity with the Palestinian people and we highly appreciate all the positions that we got from the Zimbabwean Government and the leadership led by His Excellency Comrade Emmerson Mnangagwa in solidarity with the Palestinian people.

“Today (yesterday) these prayers were sent to the Palestinians who suffered from the Israeli apartheid killing machine for 100 days and until now we have lost more than 24 000 martyrs, 65 percent being children and women.”
