Chunga back to grassroots Moses Chunga

IT’S exactly 10 years since Moses “Bambo” Chunga won the Premiership title with Gunners, but the former midfielder will celebrate the anniversary quietly as he gradually finds himself sidelined from the main action.

Chunga will be missing on the touchline of top-flight football for the third year running and has returned to his passion of grassroots development after securing a Division Two franchise.

His last league assignment was at Harare City in 2016. He had a stint with the Young Warriors Under-17 team.

Chunga Academy will line up against other Division Two clubs when the third-tier league begins next week.

“At the moment I really want to focus on this project. It has been long overdue. But it’s high time I do something for myself,’’ he said.

‘’I have been going back and forth but now I want to concentrate on the project.

“When working for someone you are limited and don’t have that free reign. But now I want to run my race.’’

Chunga Academy trains at Churchill High. It has different age groups from the Under-15 up to 21 year-olds.

“So far, so good. It’s is baby steps. A day at a time,” said Chunga.

“We have identified many young players from the remote areas but we are yet to absorb them.
