Chivi avails $170 000 for Chombwe water project

Masvingo Bureau
Chivi Rural District Council has budgeted nearly $170 000 for the resuscitation of Chombwe piped water scheme which will benefit more than 15 000 families.

The scheme collapsed nearly a decade ago after pumps broke down.

Lack of funding has been hampering its revival, billed as a lasting solution to water problems experienced annually in northern parts of the district.

Chivi RDC, led by its chair Councillor Godfrey Mukungunugwa and Chiefs Chivi and Madyangove are spearheading the revival of the piped water scheme.

Clr Mukungunugwa paid tribute to his council for allocating $166 000 to the project.

“We are happy with progress made so far towards the revival of the Chombwe water project that will benefit thousands of households, schools, business centres and least two clinics in our district,” said Clr Mukungunugwa.

“Preliminary investigations have already shown that we need new valves and a new pump that will draw water from Tokwe Dam before it is purified and pumped to homes, schools, clinics and business centres where taps have been dry since 2008.”
