THE inaugural Old Mutual Chitungwiza Fun Run will be held tomorrow at Chitungwiza Town Centre, with several top athletes expected to take part.

The $30 000 race will come on board to join the Old Mutual races like the Westgate half-marathon in Harare and the Nkulumane race, which was held in Bulawayo in June.

The 10km and 5km fun run will have several categories for senior runners, secondary schools and wheelchair athletes.

The event will see the winners of the men’s 10km race pocketing $1 000, with the runner-up getting $750 and the third-placed athlete walking away with $500.

In the women’s category the winner, the first runner-up and third-placed athletes, will pocket $850, $600 and $450.

Some of the athletes expected to take part in tomorrow’s race at Chitungwiza Town Centre are Jacob Mugomeri, Elijah Mabhunu, Nkosiyazi Sibanda, Constance Nyasango, Rutendo Nyahora, Isaac Mpofu, Ngonidzashe Ncube, Margaret Mahohoma, Trust Madora and veteran middle-distance runner Samukeliso Moyo.

Lilian Mbayiwa, the Old Mutual Zimbabwe marketing executive, said they were interested in promoting health among communities.

“The objective of hosting the Chitungwiza Fun Run is to encourage and promote health and wellness in and among communities,” Mbayiwa said.
