LLOYD Chitembwe is unfazed by the spate of injuries that has struck again in the CAPS United camp ahead of the Castle Lager Premiership match against defending champions Chicken Inn at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday.

Makepekepe are set to miss key midfielders — Tafadzwa Rusike, Abbas Amidu and Archford Gutu — after the trio failed to recover from injuries during the week. Gutu and Rusike were conspicuous by their absence at the team’s training session at the National Sports Stadium yesterday after they were given time off to visit the doctor.

Amidu, who pulled a muscle in the last match against Triangle at Gibbo, attended the practice session but did not play a part. Chitembwe said Makepekepe were still focused on the task at hand.

He said this has been a bad year for his side in terms of fitness as their camp has constantly been plagued by knocks.

“That has always been the case. Week in, week out we always miss important players but the good thing is we are not the kind of team that mourn over missing players. Obviously, Tafadzwa will be out, Abbas will be out and Archford is also out. This situation has always been there for us but I am happy with the boys that they have responded quite positively to the situation,” said Chitembwe.

The Green Machine are looking to maximise on home advantage and pile the pressure on log leaders FC Platinum in the championship race.

They are currently in second place with 43 points, one behind the platinum miners. But apart from the injured trio of midfielders, Makepekepe are looking to have the rest of the players available for selection.

Morale is high in their team following good wins over Mutare City and Triangle in their last two outings, which have proved crucial in their quest to end a 11-year drought in the title campaign.
