CAPS United coach Lloyd Chitembwe says he is fighting for recognition in the club’s history as he tries to build a side that will be remembered as one, if not the best Green Machine, ever.

Chitembwe told journalists yesterday that he is driven more by internal challenges, to be remembered as one of the men who made a big mark at Makepekepe, than outside forces.

“Just like in athletics, an athlete concentrates on his performance and beating the world record, he doesn’t look at his competitors, so it’s the same with us,” said Chitembwe.

“We have our ambitions, not necessarily to compete against FC Platinum, but probably to compete against the so-called best CAPS United team ever. That is the competition we have.

“We want to try and win the most number of points, better than the so-called best CAPS United ever, that is our target in as far as we are concerned.

“We want to have as many clean sheets as we possibly can so that we make a record that this season CAPS United have finished the season with four or five clean sheets, something that has not happened before.”

Chitembwe said they were charting their own destiny.

“There is competition within ourselves and we don’t want outside competition. We don’t really care about that.

“We care about competition within us, to want to be the best CAPS United team ever,” he said.

The coach said they were taking each game as it comes and they were now concentrating on the away match against How Mine tomorrow.

Chitembwe conceded that his men did not rise to expectations in their last match, especially in the second half, but said it was normal to have such games in the championship race.
