MOSES Chunga’s Chiredzi FC begin life in the Castle Lager Premiership when they host FC Platinum at Chishamiso this afternoon.
Chiredzi were formed from the ashes of Hippo Valley.“As Chiredzi FC, we are ready for the first game of the season. It’s going to be a historic match for us because that will be the first time the team will be playing in the Premiership,” said Chunga.

“But I am surprised at some prophets of doom who are spreading the word that Chiredzi FC are already facing hard times. We are new in the PSL and we definitely need time to adjust. Our side is a mixture of old and new players.

“I am keen on reintroducing the ‘Kidznet project’ but this does not mean I do not work with experienced players at all.”

However, FC Platinum vice-captain Thabani Kamusoko yesterday sounded upbeat about his team’s chances of beginning their campaign with a win.

“We have prepared well since our camp in Kariba. We have a united group of players in the team and the roping in of youngsters has helped us gel very well and everyone is focused,” said Kamusoko.

The platinum miners will be without defenders Aaron Katebe and Daniel Veremu, who have been sidelined by injuries.
FC Platinum have a number of new players who would like to make a mark.

They include Njabulo Ncube, Wisdom Mutasa, Tatenda Mudehwe, Walter Musona and Stephen Sibanda. The arrival of former Dynamos player Gift Bello has also strengthened their defence.
