renowned gospel music recording companies, Fire House Productions, who will record her third album.
The stable – owned by Sammy Ralekholela – has recorded some of South Africa’s top gospel artistes like Soweto Gospel Choir, Ithani Madima and Lebo, as well as Zimbabwean musician Tsitsi Kudita.
Chipo (29) becomes one of the few local upcoming gospel artistes to land such a lucrative deal that will see songs from her 10-track album and videos being played on some of South Africa’s leading channels like Channel O and One Gospel, among others.
The diva said she was honoured to land the deal, saying it reflected the level of confidence that South African music producers had in local artistes.
“I feel very humbled by this honour. God is beginning to show wonders in my career and this not my achievement alone but also for my fellow musicians.
“I landed the deal after being linked to the stable by one of my friends who is based in Johannesburg,” Chipo said.
She urged upcoming musicians to persevere if they wanted to make it in their careers.
“In everything you do, you should surrender you fate to God and don’t give up,” she said.
One of Chipo’s songs – “Zimbabwe You Are Blessed”, taken off her latest album “Save Us” is also featured on the Born Free Crew album, “Get Connected”.
She started singing at a very tender age at SOS Children’s Village in Bindura, after she was dumped while still young.
“It was a Christian children’s home and it helped a lot in shaping my gospel music career.
“To me talent is inborn, God gave it to me, although I credit author Beatrice Sithole and poet Chirikure Chirikure who spotted me during one of ZTV’s programmes, AM Zimbabwe and encouraged me to pursue my career.
“Sithole, who is also my foster mother, helped me to record my first album, “Ndinochema” with Gramma Records, in 2002.
“However, it was Prudence Katomeni-Mbofana, who taught me to perfect my vocal skills,” said Chipo, who grew up listening to music by the likes of Shuvai Wutaunashe, Cece Winans, Usher and Michael Jackson.
Chipo released her second album, “Save Us”, last year, which is being marketed and distributed by Diamond Records.
Despite growing up in an orphanage, Chipo has managed to hold her head high and believes that the sky is the limit.
Apart from being a musician, she also wants to pursue other artistic genres and one of her passions is writing.
She has since started writing a book titled “My Destiny”.
The book chronicles her life, while staying at SOS Children’s Home, her life as a musician and woman.
She was born on January 29, 1982.
