CHINHOYI Municipality has so far rehabilitated at least 3,3 kilometres of road using the $219 000 from the National Road Fund availed by the Zimbabwe National Roads Authority (Zinara) and its own resources, a council official has said. In an interview yesterday, council spokesperson Mr Tichaona Mlauzi said council had so far rehabilitated the town’s major roads and was still working on others.

“In the Central Business District, we have so far rehabilitated 1,3km Midway Road at a cost of $84 000, 0,6km Montroes, 0,2km Megawatt Link, 0,5km North Drive, 0,7km Park Street, at a cost of $37 000, $10 000, $29 000 and $29 000 respectively,” he said.

“There was also a $30 000 Mobilisation Fund by council. The road rehabilitation exercise is being funded using the Road Fund, which is administered by Zinara and our internal funds.”

Mr Mlauzi said council was now prioritising other roads in the low- and high- density suburbs.

“We believe we still have other areas we have to attend to, including Msasa, Conland and Mwaunga roads,” he said.

The exercise comes barely a day after Zinara acting chief executive Engineer Moses Juma praised local authorities across the country for effectively utilising the $104 million Road Fund released by Zinara from January to October this year.

“I think there has been a great improvement in the utilisation of Zinara resources this year,” he said.
