NEWLY-ELECTED Zimbabwe Women Soccer League chairperson Barbara Chikosi will hit the ground running when she and her team convene their first meeting today.

Chikosi, famously known as “Mama Red Rose”, took over the women football leadership on Saturday when she beat Rosemary Kagonye.

The businesswoman managed 11 votes against Kagonye’s four.

The elections also saw Wilbert Rambanepasi becoming the vice chairperson while the quartet of Brenda Gorejena, Panganai Mahachi, Beulah Musara and Tafadzwa Mujuru were elected as committee members.

Chikosi said it is not going to be a one-person band.

“We are going to have our first meeting so that we map the way forward,” she said.

“It is good that we put to practice what we promised and that will be our starting point.

“We want to uplift the girl child and football and ensure that they get equal opportunities with their male counterparts.

“I want to see unity prevailing within all stakeholders for the good of the game.”

The chairperson of Premiership side Cyclone Stars, who has seen it all in football, said she is thankful for all those who voted for her.

“I would like to thank all those who had faith in me and I hope peace prevails as a lot happened during the build-up to the elections, but it’s now water under the bridge.

“I think results will speak for themselves and with the help of my board we are aiming to lure partners to the league which will benefit the clubs, especially the players,” she added.
