PREMIERSHIP giants Highlanders have admitted that they owe striker Beaven Chikaka a big chunk of his dues but have asked the forward to be patient as the club is making a payment plan.
Chikaka played for Highlanders in the 2012 and 2013 seasons after he was signed from city rivals Zimbabwe Saints for US$6 000.
The nomadic striker, who has featured for CAPS United and Dynamos, claims that he received part payment and is owed US$3 500 and has decided to take the club to court.

“I played for Highlanders for two seasons and left at the end of my contact, but up to now I have not received all my fees.
“It was only after I had taken them to court in May that they agreed to deposit something in my account. But Highlanders just made one payment after that and then stopped up to now.

“I am in the process of engaging my lawyers on the matter again,” said Chikaka, who was recently released by Black Rhinos.
Highlanders chief executive Ndumiso Gumede  yesterday said they club was working on a plan to pay its creditors, including former players like Chikaka, once its financial positions improves,.

“We are aware of the debt and we have been dealing with his lawyers and that’s why we have been depositing something into his account.
“It was just yesterday (Monday) that we also directed the treasurer to pay something and it’s not far-fetched that we owe him money,” said Gumede.

However, Gumede appealed for the player to be patient until the club’s financial position improves.
“We have a big name as a club but that does not mean that we have a big account. In any way we thought the boy would be of real value but he failed to live to his potential although we are still obliged to pay him.

“So, if he came to Highlanders as a mercenary, then that was unfortunate because one day he would require our help,” said Gumede.
