Chegutu-based popular acapella gospel outfit Chiedza ChaVatendi is back with a new album after a two-year absence. The 12-member group that is famous the song, “Ivhu Kuvhu” has released the nine-track album entitled “Tiri Vafambi”.

Speaking to The Herald Entertainment, group lead vocalist Tapiwa Chibaya said the album was inspired by the societal settings.

“We have been absent in the industry for the past two years because we faced some financial constraints.

“We are happy that we are back on track and the album is a masterpiece, something that our fans have been longing for,” he said.

He cited lack of show promoters and sponsors as a key challenge in their genre.

“If you check closely show promoters are running to other genres and it is a great challenge to us because we are struggling.

“Piracy is also another factor which we are trying to curb. Music brings joy to our hearts and we are still the same group you used to know,” he said.

Chibaya said the album is their 10th and was proud the group has maintained its original members.

“We have songs like ‘Makanaka Mwari’, ‘Taurai Nesu’, ‘Ndorarama naIshe’ and ‘Iwe Ramba’ among others. Our new album serves a purpose of bringing people closer and back to God, giving them hope and we should be proud of our identity. We are still together as the founding members,” he said.

Asked what there have been doing for the past two years, Chibaya said there were busy in studio recording the album.

“We have been playing at corporate functions, weddings, funerals and at parties. We can say we have been out of the domain as we were busy in the studio.

“It is a blessing that the album is out. So far we have performed in Mutare, Bulawayo, Harare and Chinhoyi,” he said.

He said they are already working on a DVD for the album.

“We have located some places for video shooting and we plan to do the videos for the whole album,” said Chibaya.

The album was produced by Shed Studios with some of the songs written by Chibaya and songs composed by the group.
