AFTER going for almost the entire first half of the season without winning a match at their home ground, Chegutu Pirates finally got it right on Saturday.
They defeated struggling Royal Classic 1-0 in a basement battle at Pfupajena.
Chegutu had in the previous week lost to Lake Harvest when they fielded a weaker team after the departure of some of their senior players such as David Mwanza, Tofirei Sambo, Elton Mudzami, Peter Kajeke and Hector Kapora.

With only one match left before the league takes a break, Pirates finally scored their first goal at home through their recent acquisition, David Mangezi, to grab their first win at home.

This was their third win from the 16 games they have played so far.
Chegutu coach, Gipter Raiva, described the match as one of their best games so far.

“The match was one of the best because of the fact that we are on a rebuilding exercise. One of our new youngsters we brought into the team, David Mangezi, scored the goal.

“We scored the fastest goal just a minute into the game. It was our first win and first goal at Pfupajena. Like I said before, we need to start picking points.
“We are looking at picking points, maybe about six to nine, so that we move from the basement where we are,” said Raiva.

Raiva said they need to maintain the levels they displayed in Saturday’s performance to move up the table.
“We are hoping that by the third game of the second half of the season we should have moved from the bottom.

“And that’s very possible because it’s like when a team loses seven to eight games in a row the players tend to lose concentration.
“So the points we picked with these new youngsters have seen everyone starting to believe that there are more things we can do,” Raiva said.

Chegutu Pirates registered five new players from their junior structures last week to try and rebuild the team and three of the players, Mangezi, Gift Mwinga and Kudakwashe Tembo, were part of the team that beat Royal Classic.
