Chamisa’s political own goals

Kaelin Choto-Herald Correspondent

An old adage goes, ‘never interrupt your adversary when they are making a mistake,’ but even the world’s most selfish competitor can never enjoy cheap political exploits presenting self from Nelson Chamisa’s attempts to re-invent political strategies in the name of dribbling Zanu PF.

CCC leader, Nelson Chamisa has taken too far his efforts to prove that in Zimbabwe there is electoral fraud by Zanu PF as it allegedly deploys Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) time and again to steal election victories from that party.

The current voter registration and mobilisation drive by CCC is yielding marginal political dividends as more youth are proving to be reluctant to register as voters. The current trends showing in the by elections being held reflect not much of change in the voting patterns by Zimbabweans.

If anything Zanu PF is proving victorious even after losing the polls in some CCC strong holds such as Chimanimani and Kariba.

How is this so?

The margin with which CCC won these constituencies is shrinking rather than widening as one would expect given that party’s social media hyperbole that more youth are wishing to vote Zanu PF out of power.

There is none other than Chamisa and CCC’s rhetoric of stolen election to blame for this voter apathy.

CCC is known for its chorus of stolen elections than anything else in this country much to an extend that “ipai mwana majiggies ake” was formulated in the streets.

They have not done anything to show the electorate what they are capable of achieving as alternative or a government in waiting as they would want to fascinate themselves.

It is needless to speak of poor service delivery at this point because Government is doing absolutely everything that local authorities should have been executing as their mandate. President Mnangagwa is commissioning one project after the other and these initiatives have a direct bearing with local and ordinary people.

There is so much to talk about that Chamisa doing wrong and even his traditional supporters are beginning to speak.

His staunch supporter Setfree Mafukidze had to break ranks and file to ask how CCC without structures and a constitution would nominate candidates to run for parliamentary seats and well as other position.

Mafukidze posted that “Dear CCC Zimbabwe can you help me understand how your candidates for your various constituencies will be selected from the people given that there are no structures in place. Who will be eligible to oversee the candidate selection for 210 constituencies and 1000 plus councillors?”

Reality is fast creeping in and exposing some of the ill strategies Chamisa is deploying to sustain that he is fighting electoral graft.

Former Minister Professor Jonathan Moyo questioned the logic behind the strategy of CCC not establishing structures.

He was to reap mountains of chiding and rebuke from Chamisa’s fans.

It took academic Stephen Chan to explain that even the West; Britain the United States etal also wanted to know who is at the front bench in that party.

Only then that Chamisa announced a shadow cabinet which was not tribally balanced to say the least.

However, more voices have begun popping up and chorusing on Chamisa’s shortcomings. Controversial pastor, Apostle Talent Chiwenga, has become the latest voice to take aim at Chamisa.

In a short video clip doing rounds on social media, Chiwenga accuses Chamisa of being divorced from the people’s plight and concentrating too much on himself.

Chiwenga’s submissions further exposed how much of a demigod that Chamisa was moving to present himself.

There are no structures at his party save for his voice which is the command.

The index finger plus the CCC loosely translated Chamisa Chete Chete all depict how everything the opposition party is about him.

Chiwenga went on to chide Chamisa for putting self in safe havens and leaving the likes of Job Sikhala languishing in prison.

Chiwenga thought true leadership comes in the shape and size of Sikhala which is a wrong perception altogether. Sikhala is one guy pregnant with unnecessary and untamed exuberance which is obviously costing his freedom.

Chiwenga needs to be educated that in as much as Chamisa has no structures he also does not have a strategy.

The guy is cornered and clueless and applying wait and see in the hope of an opportunity where Zanu PF misses a step and he moves in. Chamisa has nothing to offer and playing defensive instead of offensive ahead of the 2023 polls.

The opposition is simply in trouble and there is nowhere to run.

Apostle Chiwenga only made a pertinent observation, that is; Chamisa the person is fast becoming a political spent force. President Mnangagwa has proven to be too much a political giant that he can take on.

Zanu PF does not have to do much of mobilisation to sell its candidature, the projects and people oriented initiatives are speaking for themselves.

It is high time Chamisa desists from the own goals and consider quick Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for his political career.
