Desperate to win this year’s election, MDC-T leader Mr Nelson Chamisa has been approaching Zanu-PF rejects in the form of the expelled G40 cabal to bolster his chances at the ballot in July.

Mr Chamisa was recently captured posing for a picture with the Zanu-PF expelled trio of Shadreck Mashayamombe, Kudakwashe Bhasikiti and Jappy Jaboon in a thread that went viral on social media.

Mr Jaboon on Tuesday said while their objective as opposition political parties was to remove Zanu-PF from power, he had not joined the MDC Alliance.

“Chamisa is my colleague,” he said. “We are all opposition members, but I have not joined them. I am not an MDC-T member. It was just a picture taken of us.”

Mr Jaboon said the intention was to remove the Zanu-PF Government.

Mr Wonder Mashange, another former Zanu-PF member dismissed links with the G40 cabal, who was apparently with Mr Jaboon when The Herald phoned, chipped in saying no one should worry about their choices.

“Kana ukaramba mukadzi ukawana achibatwa mubhawa nevamwe you do not complain,” he said. “Zanu-PF dismissed us and that is it.”

While Mr Jaboon was denying links with the MDC Alliance, Mr Bhasikiti confirmed being part of it.

“We started the MDC Alliance,” he said. “We actually launched it. We are the alliance.”

Mr Bhasikiti said he was not rejoining Zanu-PF and appealed to other G40 members to join the MDC Alliance.

Mr Mashayamombe was not immediately available for a comment.

The MDC-T Alliance recently split, with its former vice president Dr Thokozani Khupe, national chairman Lovemore Moyo and former spokesperson Mr Obert Gutu — having left the opposition party in protest after Mr Chamisa usurped power following the death of Mr Morgan Tsvangirai in February.

The fissures continue to manifest in the MDC-T with its deputy president Elias Mudzuri yesterday refusing to endorse Mr Chamisa’s leadership.
