Some pupils have delayed returning to school following cash shortages that have affected some banks in the country. There were long queues of parents waiting to deposit school fees this past week after schools had opened. CBZ and ZB banks had some of the longest queues. On Tuesday, Wednesday and even Thursday some boarders could be seen in their school uniform with their luggage as they stood in queues or waited outside the banks.

A serious cash shortage last week meant that some parents could not pay fees on time. Unfortunately, the schools did not adjust their requirements and insisted that fees be paid before kids could be admitted.

Other parents opted for bank transfers but again, kids could not be admitted into school until the transfers had been cleared. The process takes a few days so more kids missed the first days of school. — CLS.
