CAPS United line up two major signings Moses Muchenje

CASTLE Lager Premier Soccer League giants CAPS United are looking to reinforce their midfield this transfer window.

Already the Green Machine have technically secured their former captain Moses Muchenje and ex-Harare City man Learnmore Muyambo.

The duo has been training with Makepekepe for over two months with indications that they would be added to the club’s roster this transfer window.

And Charlie Jones, the club’s chief executive, yesterday said the two could be registered this June. “Yes, Learnmore Muyambo and Moses Muchenje have been training with us for some time now and we could register them this window,” said Jones.

“As a club, we are working on improving the team where we can with the recommendation of the technical team led by head coach (Lloyd Chitembwe.

“For now we can only talk of those two who we have been with for some time”.

While Makepekepe are looking solid defensively and in attack, their midfield has been shaky in the 10 games they have played this term.

In the only game they lost, a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Dynamos, veteran Devon Chafa who is by far the best midfielder at CAPS United, was badly exposed by the youthful DeMbare engine room.

Chafa lacked enough complement from his fellows like Blessing Sarupinda and he had to be pulled off at the break.

And even without Chafa and Sarupinda, who have rarely played since that April 30 debacle, CAPS United’s shortcomings in the department have been apparent.

The addition of the duo could in a way help an otherwise solid outfit to dish out even more impressive performances this season.

Another returnee Tafadzwa Rusike has also been training with the team and he was registered but he is yet to feature for the team this season.

He has been training and his level of fitness is now beyond doubt and he could also help CAPS United are playing some of the most entertaining football in the league and they have only lost once in 10 games this season.

With 17 points to their name, Makepekepe are currently fifth on the log after winning four games and drawing five times.

They are only three points behind pacesetters Ngezi Platinum Stars who have played a game more than the Green Machine.

CAPS United’s match-day nine fixture against Sheasham which was scheduled for Mandava failed to take off due to quarrels between the Premier Soccer League and Sheasham.

The drama emanated from the fact that the PSL had controversially banned Sheasham’s home venue-Bata Stadium in Gweru despite it having been cleared to host top-flight matches by the ZIFA First Instance Board.

After realising that things were getting out of hand, PSL paid for the venue only for Sheasham to say they had not budgeted to travel and host a match at Mandava.

Makepekepe pitched up, warmed up and even did all the pre-match procedures on the Mandava turf.

Sheasham have since written a report explaining their side of the story to the PSL after they were asked to do so and it will be interesting to see how the case will be handled.

The Green Machine will be praying that the match be awarded to them on a 3-0 score line which, suppose it happens now, would push them to pole position on goal difference.

Meanwhile Sheasham are finally smiling after Bata Stadium was, with the blessings of PSL, cleared to host top-tier games.

The new boys will host Herentals at their home in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League tie on Saturday.
