Manicaland Correspondent
A Mutare man was last Friday sentenced to 10 years in prison for stealing over 36 metres of National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) copper cables.

Theophelous Mukome (28) from Greenside, Mutare, appeared before magistrate Tendai Mahwe, along with Farai Murimbachi who was found not guilty after a full trial.

Mukome pleaded guilty to contravening Section 60 (A) (3) (B) of the Electricity Act Chapter 13.19.

Mr Mahwe sentenced him to 10 years and ordered the return of the cables to NRZ.

Circumstances are that on three separate occasions on February 16, Mukome stole 36 metres, as well as 10kg of copper cables at the NRZ offices in Mutare.

Mukome was arrested after two employees who had seen him and his accomplice sneaking into the organisation informed security guards and they teamed up to apprehend them.
