HOSTS Border strikers suffered yet another home defeat when they came second best to How Mine in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League tie before a huge crowd at Dulivhadzimu yesterday.

Diminutive midfielder Pasca Manhanga sent the visitors into the drivers’ seat in the 27th minute when he headed home a Timothy January that caught Vavheneki’s goalkeeper Talent Sundae on the wrong side.

As usual the home team tried to come back through counter attacks by William Nyoni and Godfrey Mukambi but they kept misfiring.

The match was played under very cool conditions and kicked off at high pace.

Border Strikers’ Maximan Nyoni had a hard time passing through the How Mine defence which was in no nonsense mood.

The hosts skipper Micheal Vhariso tried to level matters in the 43rd minute but his shot was well collected by How Mine goalkeeper Donovan Bernard.

In the second half Border Strikers coach, Never Malunga introduced two new strikers in the form of Prince Sibanda and Kudzanai Kwashi for Nyoni and Munyaradzi Chirape respectively.

The two substitutes turned the heat on How Mine but poor finishing let them down. Kelvin Kaindu’s charges responded by camping in the hosts’ half piling pressure on Vhariso and his defence.

Praise Tonha then sealed Vavheneki’s fate when he sent in a powerful shot off a set piece.

Kaindu said his charges had played well though they committed a lot of unnecessary fouls for the better part of the game.

“We played according to the plan but we made a lot of defensive mistakes. However, we thank God that we have managed to collect maximum points away against a determined team like Border Strikers,” Kaindu said.

His counterpart, Malunga said they wasted a lot of chances and that they will continue fighting for points.
