THE much-awaited Bob@90 basketball awards will take place this evening after the sponsors Innscor Africa unveiled the prize money and a sponsorship package for the schools game yesterday. Innscor Africa through their Bakers Inn brand were the major sponsors of the event and unveiled US$5 000 prize money for the winners.

The guest of honour at the presentation Deputy Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Tabitha Kanengoni-Malinga said they are happy with the progress made so far and believes that the event will continue to grow.

“It is exciting to celebrate the birthday of the head of state through sport and as a ministry we are happy to see sports develop.
“To the organisers I say well done and I encourage all those who use the 21st February movement ideology to stage events to make sure that funds reach the intended beneficiaries. We look forward to continue witnessing such successful events in the feature,” Malinga said.

Bakers Inn brand and marketing manager Ketan Patel said the teams will be rewarded for being triumphant in the competition and also announced their package for schools.

“We are committing in to invest in school sports through sponsoring of new school kits and sporting tournament prizes.
“We will play a critical role in inspiring generation of youngsters to play sport by providing them with opportunities to take part in competitive school sport. In the past we have introduced talented athletes to high level competitions and with the help of sport, education governing bodies we hope to provide further opportunities to compete and develop talent.

“We are happy to announce our school sports initiative,” Patel said.
Cameo men’s basketball team successfully defended their title when they beat Matero Magic 50-42 while women’s final was an all-Matabeleland affair with Lakers beating Mavericks 27-15 in the final.

Prince Edward continued their dominance in the schools category as they beat Conway College 22-19 in a tightly-contested final.
Conway College also picked up the silver medal, in the schoolgirls’ battle, as they lost 16-18, in another close match, to dominant force Girls High.
