ZIMBABWE are fancying their chances of remaining in the Europe/Africa Group II when they take on Georgia in the Davis Cup Europe/Africa Group II relegation play-off tie this weekend.

The tie is slated for Friday to Sunday in Georgia.

Non-playing captain Martin Dzuwa will lead the team comprising the Lock brothers, Benjamin and Courtney, Mark Fynn and Mehluli Sibanda.

Zimbabwe find themselves in the same scenario as last year, when they had to fight for survival after losing the first round tie to Bosnia-Hezergovina.

They then beat Moldova in the relegation play off to remain in the Group.

They are hoping for another survival this year after losing their first round tie to Finland 1-4 in March.

TZ president Regis Bhunu said they are optimistic the team will pull through although it’s going to be a tough task as both teams are fighting to remain in the group.

“We have a good chance. We know they have got very good players, but miracles do happen, things do happen in tennis. There is a chance with our number one player (Benjamin Lock).

“The main issue is the match between our number two player and Georgia’s number two player. The reverse singles will be key and the doubles match is key as well. If we win the doubles and the number two match we should be rolling,” he said.
