Bayern sparkle in Champs League opener

bhoraLONDON. — Holders Bayern Munich made a sparkling start to their Champions League title defence last night, with Pep Guardiola’s side easing past CSKA Moscow 3-0 in their Group D opener at the Allianz Arena. It’s definitely the greatest football show on earth, 29 goals last night are proof of that.

Match Day One served a feast of goals, some stunners which will definitely contend for the goal of the year.
Bayern, attempting to become the first team to win the trophy in back-to-back seasons, got off to a dream start when David Alaba floated a vicious free kick over the wall and past keeper Igor Akinfeev in the third minute.

Croat Mario Mandzukic added a second goal in the 41st minute, heading in an Arjen Robben free kick, before the Dutchman made it 3-0 midway through the second half.

Wayne Rooney scored twice to chalk up 200 goals for Manchester United as his side beat Bayer Leverkusen 4-2 in their Champions League Group A opener at Old Trafford last night.

Rooney put the English champions ahead in the 22nd minute with a close-range volley and had chances to stretch the lead before Leverkusen captain Simon Rolfes levelled after 54 minutes.

Robin van Persie re-established the three-time European champions’ lead five minutes later with an acrobatic volley and Rooney made amends for an earlier miss by squeezing home a right-footed shot after a defensive mix-up.

Antonio Valencia made it 4-1 after 79 minutes before Omer Toprak’s late consolation for Leverkusen as United’s David Moyes enjoyed his first taste of managing in the Champions League group stage with a victory.

Gareth Bale came off the bench and played a key role in two goals in Real Madrid’s hammering of Galatasaray in Istanbul as Cristiano Ronaldo struck his 21st hat-trick for the Bernabeu club in a 5-1 romp.

Bale watched Isco, Karim Benzema and Ronaldo put his new club 3-0 up over the Turkish champions, before coming on and having a hand in the action.

First, the Wales winger’s free-kick found its way to Ronaldo, who made no mistake and made it 4-0 for Carlo Ancelotti’s side.
He then slipped Ronaldo through, who rolled the ball to Benzema before the France striker doubled his tally.
