Mashonaland East Zanu-PF candidates have vowed to boost the party’s membership and mobilise voters during the ongoing voter registration and inspection mop-up exercise. The exercise, which started countrywide yesterday, will end on May 29, with the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission availing over 10 000 inspection polling centres.

In separate interviews with The Herald, candidates were upbeat that ZANU-PF will win resoundingly in the 2018 harmonised elections in the province.

Murehwa North candidate Cde Daniel Garwe said in his constituency they were already in overdrive gear mobilising party supporters to register.

“We noted that in our party structures, we had several people who had not registered to vote. Now the exercise is back, we are now using a ward-based approach to mobilise our party members to register.

“Since last week, we lured voters by facilitating them to secure identity cards and now they are registering. Our target is to bring in at least new 10 000 Zanu-PF party members in the next 10 days,” said Cde Garwe.

Seke constituency candidate Cde Munyaradzi Kashambe said during the primary election, he had empowered at least 5 000 youths.

“We discovered that the majority of the youths had no identity cards and we are happy now that we facilitated them to secure the papers in the past week.

“We are not basing our votes from the youths only, the elderly are also being assisted around Seke constituency and we are going to boost our party membership.

“In the next 10 days, we expect to move around Seke luring everyone to register and vote for President Mnangagwa,” he said.
Marondera East candidate Cde Patrick Chidhakwa vowed to lure 80 percent of the registered voters in his constituency to Zanu-PF ahead of the general elec- tions.

“We have at least 25 000 registered voters in Marondera East and we estimate that number to reach over 30 000.
“Our councillors are working around the clock to assist everyone to secure the necessary documentation so that they register.
“Come elections time, 80 percent of the total registered voters will be Zanu-PF,” said Cde Chidhakwa.
