LONDON. — Arsenal are plotting a move for Manchester United winger Nani. According to reports, Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is keen to land the Portuguese winger, who has become a forgotten man at Old Trafford. Portuguese newspaper A Bola claims that the Gunners will bid £9 million for Nani, who has failed to hold down a place in the United starting 11 in recent years.

Nani, who joined the Red Devils in 2007 from Sporting Lisbon for £20m, has slipped down the pecking order at Old Trafford due to the arrival of Antonio Valencia and the emergence of Adnan Januzaj. The 27-year-old is open to a move away from Old Trafford this summer, and hinted earlier this month that a few clubs have made enquiries for him.

He said: “I’m a United player but there has been some interest on my behalf. I will evaluate it and decide what is the most advantageous for me. A return to Portugal? Right now I don’t know.”

If the Gunners are to pursue Nani they will face stiff competition from Italian giants Inter Milan.
Reports in Italy earlier this month claimed that Inter boss Walter Mazzarri was keen to sign the former Sporting star and is willing to pay United £12m for the winger.

Meanwhile, Sami Khedira is still hopeful of sealing a move to Arsenal this summer despite suggestions that the Gunners have given up trying to sign him.
Khedira looked all but certain to move to the Emirates Stadium two weeks ago when his agent held talks with the Gunners over a transfer.

However, the deal has since stalled because of the German’s wage demands, and Arsenal are now apparently looking at other options, including converting Jack Wilshere into a defensive midfielder. — The Daily Star.
