THE Pink Project and Triathlon Zimbabwe are on Sunday scheduled to host the annual Fun Pink Triathlon at Mount Pleasant Pool in Harare.

The event is used to fundraise for the Cancer Centre and is held in October, the breast cancer awareness month.

Director for The Pink Project, Debi Jeans, said they are excited to be holding the event again this year.

“The Pink Project and Triathlon Zimbabwe partner to organise and run the annual Pink Triathlon.

“What we do, is we find a sponsor every year who will cover the costs of running the race or running the event, so that every dollar that is taken in from entry fees goes to the Cancer Centre.

“So we are very happy that it’s the 10th year and it’s always an amazing community event and children from four years old, all the way up to I don’t know…to 60, 70 years old (take part),” said Jeans.

Participants can compete as individuals or teams.

“The nice thing is that everyone just dresses in pink. There is no placing, there is no times, there is no awards, all it is, is that people can swim, cycle or run in teams or as individuals and the distances are relatively short and doable by everyone.

“And it’s an absolutely fantastic fundraiser for the Cancer Centre and obviously for breast cancer awareness.

“I am a breast cancer survivor myself but I don’t like using survivor, I like thriver. Eight years ago I had breast cancer and had a double mastectomy. So quite coincidental or it’s meant to be that I had already started the Pink Triathlon two years before my own diagnosis.

“So, very important that we do this and it can happen to anyone at any time and I know it makes a huge difference for people out there, women with breast cancer to see that these events are happening,” Jeans said.
