“What we only wait for is for the people to come in their numbers, because this is an important day in the life our country. It was not an easy journey but here we are and we should celebrate those who laid down their lives and brought the country out of colonial bondage.”

In Masvingo, people are expected to converge at the Masvingo Provincial Heroes Acre with Provincial Affairs Minister Cde Shuvai Mahofa officiating.

Cde Mahofa said the province was ready to roll.

“The youths have held a clean-up exercise at the provincial shrine; the fund-raising committee has done its duty and members of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces have been deployed and expressed their readiness,” she said.

“The happiness that we have today is owed to the freedom fighters and their sacrifices and, we should celebrate them. I believe the youths should continue to be taught about this day because they are our future leaders who should continue respecting the immense contributions made during the liberation struggle.”

As part of this year’s celebrations, we have a clean-up campaign in Bindura and we are also going to send a delegation of youths to Mgagao in Tanzania to have an appreciation of the freedom camp there. We realised that there has been a lot of concentration on Chimoio but there are other freedom camps, which are equally important that our youths should know.”
