ZIMBABWE professional golfers, Tich Musemburi, Clive Nguru (Jnr) and Kayaam Mandhu, are confident they will do well in the Harare Open scheduled for Chapman today and tomorrow.

The tournament is the third for local professionals this year and is organised by the Zimbabwe Professional Golfers Association.

The professionals have already taken part in the The Zimbabwe Open and JM Busha tournament.

The Harare Open is returning to the local golfing radar after a three-year sabbatical with the high-profile event having been last held at Royal Harare in 2014.

Musemburi, who is coming from a long-term injury, is hopeful he will provide a good challenge to the other professionals in the Harare Open.

“I have been working hard for the past two weeks and I believe I will do well during the two days of the tournament.

‘’The course is playing well and, having been out for a year, I think I am now 98% ready.

“I injured my wrist but it has since healed and I am now focusing on my game. I think I have been at Chapman for a long time and now know every corner having won several amateur championships, including the club championships, twice.

“The tournament is good as it give us a chance to practise and stay focused. The field will be tough but I am ready and will do my best to be at the top.

“My injury has since healed and I am ready to have a good tournament,” said Musemburi.

Mandhu is back home after trying his luck in the Sunshine Tour and has now shifted focus to the two local games.

“This year I have not been playing much on this Sunshine Tour obvious,’’ he said.

“I have been here for couple of weeks preparing for the two events of the year, working a bit well with my team, the psychologist and coach.

“Chapman is great course, the field is fantastic although it’s too wet at the end of winter. The competition is very tough.’’

Nguru is also confident he has done enough to be a strong contender in the tournament after a two-month break.

“I think I am doing everything well, I have been practicing for the past week and it is good to have an event of this magnitude,” said Nguru.

The Harare Open will be supported by the Harare City Council who have promised to put a $20 000 purse for the players.

At least 40 professional golfers and several amateurs are expected to tee off at this tournament.

Meanwhile, two local profesional golfers, Mark Williams and Marc Cayeux, are taking part in the Sunshine Tour’s Sun Carnival City Challenge in Benoni, South Africa.
