ABOUT 92 gymnasts have confirmed their participation at this year’s Zimbabwe National Championships set for next week at the Zimbabwe Gymnasium in Mount Pleasant.
The Zimbabwe Nationals is an event which takes place annually and it attracts gymnasts from all ages and levels. This year’s event has entrants from all over Zimbabwe with gymnasts from Bulawayo, Marondera, Chitungwiza, Mutare and hosts Harare attending.

Ninety-two gymnasts entered to compete from Level 1 up to Level 10 and they will be competing in the six to 21 years age-groups.
There are entrants from all schools and clubs who do gymnastics as this is the final competition for the local competition season.

The vice-chairman of Gymnastics Zimbabwe, Chris Muchatuta, said they are happy to have different entries from across the country.
“We are glad to see so many entries coming in from so many different clubs and regions of Zimbabwe. With the sport growing at the lower levels, this is a positive sign for our future national teams and our team that will be travelling to Namibia in December for the Region Five gymnastics competition.

“The preparations are going on well and all the gymnasts are busy training as they only have a week left before the big event,” said Muchatuta.
Level five’s Privilege Sande of Herentals College in Glen View will be hoping to retain his title in the boys’ section while Savannah Harper is also looking for a positive result in the girls section. The other winners from last year include level one gymnast Anesu Mapiro, level two girls’ champion Vongai Shava of Harare and level two’s Marsha Shamungani of Bulawayo.

The level three defending champion Kirstin Johnson will be hoping to defend her title while Rebecca Conlon will be aiming on retaining her level four title in Drastic Gymnastics.
